I happened to be standing outside watching the Dirty Three offload their equipment and luggage into the Kutsher's complex. I was standing with my own luggage with my buddy while our friends got our wristbands and room keys. Even at 2pm or so on a drizzling Friday, these guys looked like rockstars.
So what WASN'T special about this performance? Nick Cave guested on piano (though he didn't sing or play a huge role generally). The band played the seminal "Ocean Songs" straight through. The intensity and the vibe, even relatively early in the night, were 1000% there, including some hilarious banter. The sound quality of the recording is excellent and captures the experience quite well in my opinion. At one point some irritating talkers show up, who my friend Ben promptly told to STFU. Thanks for that, my friend.
Setlist (obviously, it's Ocean Songs, but there are a couple audience noise breaks in there, and I'm trying to do this quickly, so please help out with the setlist)
