Flaming Lips

I-Beam San Francisco

A friend of mine was transferring old cassettes to disc and ran across this.
It was recorded by our friend Enrico who passed away way too young
way too long ago.

This is from the master and I don't think it has ever gotten out before. From looking around this (and a December 1985 show I'll torrent next) seem to be among the earliest Flaming Lips tapes around. I've seen mention of a show from 1984,and one other show in 1986, but none from 1985. I've scoured the net and found no mention
or release of these recordings. Also this is a show with the band as a 4 piece with Waynes brother Mark still in the band.

In the mid 80's the Lips had a big champion in San Francisco, Cathy Cohn, who was (and still is) a KUSF DJ who also booked the Haight Street venue The I-Beam. The Lips played there a lot and all I remember about their shows is they were really f-ing loud. From listening to these tapes, they were also really f-ing good!

This show features a great cover of Pink Floyds Wish You Were Here and Zeps Rock and Roll. Wayne or Mark introduces the band at the beginning of the show as: John Entwistle, Keith Moon, Jeffrey Lee Pierce and Eddie Van Halen!

Sound quality is pretty good for a hand held recorder. Scarcity makes up for that.

I hope you enjoy it!
