The Review: I had never been to the Sons of Hermann Hall before, and it was a very interesting venue in a very
strange part of Dallas. Doors were supposed to open at 7:00 PM, but we ended up in the hall closer to 8:00. Dirt
Blue Gene was up first, and from the first song, I was thoroughly impressed. I have to say it was the best of the
set, but it set a nice tone for the remaining songs. They seemed to have a wide variety of song styles, which was
very interesting. After a fairly long intermission, the lights dimmed once more and the band, then Hope, took the
stage. They started off with a cover of Nick Drake's Courting Blues, and then proceeded to play a decent mixture of
stuff off of the new album and Bavarian Fruit Bread. At one point, the crowd's yakking was getting too much for
Hope, so she told the crowd to be quiet. A few more quiet songs were played, and then she scolded all the noisy
people. I wish more artists would tell the crowd to shut the hell up. Unfortunately for us, I believe that this
caused them to take Bluebird off of the set. After Trouble, I saw Hope turn to the band and say Suzanne, and they
played it next. After Suzanne, they finished the set off with an incredible version of For The Rest Of Your Life.
I knew that they usually played a two song encore, however I thought with the misbehaving crowd, they may be more
tempted to skip it. Thankfully they did plaWarm y the encore, and it was beautiful. Finally, after almost 15 years of
waiting, it was great to see Hope Sandoval, having been a Mazzy Star fan for so long. I seriously hope that the
crazy dancer and her husband/date, standing directly in front of me, have no memory of the show, as they do not deserve
to - her for being an obnoxious attention whore who can't dance, and him for not slapping her into behaving. I would
also like to implore their guitar tech to find a new stool to swivel around on, it was so damned noisy and he was
a little wiggle wart on it. It was great to see this show with Stephan and Amy, a special thanks to them for hanging
out!

The Recording: Well, I will not bore you with all the details, but I barely managed to pull the Hope Sandoval set
off of the MicroTrack; the battery died about 2 minutes before the end of the show for no good reason. Thanks to
the blokes at TapersSection, I was able to recover the recordings. The Dirt Blue Gene set had no issues at all,
and sounded excellent. And after the recovery process, so did the Hope set. I used Stephan's CSB > Sharp MD to
patch the last 2 minutes of the last song, which was just an extended jam by that time, but his recording also
had a slight skip near the end. If you listen, you can hear the blip, as well as the transition. However, overall
I will not complain, and I will be listening to this recording over, and over, and over, and over, and over again.
