Notes:

THIS IS LIKELY THE POOREST SOUNDING JOY DIVISION GIG EXTANT (SAVE PERHAPS
FOR KANT KINO BERLIN), SO IF YOU ARE EXPECTING HIGH FIDELITY STAY AWAY.

You have been warned.

Still, since this is very likely the very first Joy Division long-player,
it has considerable historical interest, and as it stands, is a document of
their nascent Unknown Pleasures material, if it were not for the distortion,
likely due to the mic being overloaded, the recording is fairly clear between
songs, actually.

As if that were not bad enough, this gig was copied by having the playback
of one cassette recorder being recorded by another one. However, there
are "in-line" copies in existence and it is strongly suspected that this
is one of them.

Some testimonials:

snotters: "For anyone else's benefit, I've heard Sam's copy and it's definitely
an improvement on the more common version. But it's still only worth about 4/10
(as opposed to 1/10). Probably on a par with something like Leeds Roots Club,
Newcastle City Hall and the inferior version of Blackpool 79"

TJ: "We ain't gonna get a better copy of BOTW than Sam's I suspect, it's better
than Dave Simpson's old copy was that I've had for 20 years. Pity, because it was a
half decent gig, and I love these work in progress versions of songs, not that we
got many from JD."

See http://www.new-order.net/jd/gigs/jdgigs.htm#JD-790600 for notes about the
performance and Ian's between-song quips.

See http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post/lwtua/vpost?id=488 (where the quotes
above were drawn from) for a very interesting and involved discussion trying to
pin down the exact date of this performance. It's my own belief now that this is
from the 13 Mar 1979 Band On The Wall gig, as documented on the reproduction of
the flier presented here: http://iancurtis.org/gigs/13-03-1979.html
as it makes sense that any showcase of their new Unknown Pleasures material
would first be presented in a venue at their hometown that they've performed
at many times before, but this by no means is conclusive, read the thread for
the details!

What is agreed-upon is that the 03 Jul 1979 date that has been commonly given
out is simply incorrect.

I have not attempted to clean up the recording in any fashion, no NR, no re-EQ'ing,
etc. For anybody who has downloaded this for me before, this has been retracked
(split between Day Of The Lords and Insight) as well as a couple of corrections
on inaccurate markers.
