Low - live at the Middle East Cafe, Cambridge, MA, Oct. 28, 1997

Recorded by Phil Salathe and John Kube, using a Sony ECM microphone and a Denon portable DAT, about 5-10 feet from the stage.

Transferred from the original Ampex 94-minute DAT at 48kHz; sample-rate conversion to 44.1kHz was done using Logic Audio 4.0, and fades were done using SoundEdit 16. No other changes to the audio were made. The applause on the recording peaks at 0.0 dB, but the music itself peaks at about -4.0 dB, so about 3.0 dB of gain can potentially be applied without causing any music to clip.

This concert has circulated widely as an analog transfer from DAT, but this is the first authentic digital transfer made from this source. Included are some seldom-heard tracks: Stay, Small Words, and Peanut Butter Toast and American Bandstand.

The "interference" in Be There is from a tall, oblivious gentleman who tried to walk between us -- since one of us was holding the microphone, and the other was holding the DAT, he nearly unplugged the mic cable. But, we just took a moment to untangle, and all was well.
