NOTES

From the Merge Records 5th Anniversary party. This was my first time seeing the Magnetic Fields, and was one of the more memorable
shows of the 90s for me. Most of what I had heard of them at the time was synth-heavy and had Susan Anway on vocals, so this "chamber
pop" ensemble led by the mopey but cuddley guy in the smoking jacket was very different than I expected. When I want to hear early
Magnetic Fields now, I reach for this recording more than their albums.

The recording is quite good for a stealth audience recording. I missed the first few seconds of "Summer Lies" because I didn't
anticipate that they would play an encore; over the three nights of the Merge Fest, they were the only non-headliner to get an encore.
