13. God Damn The Sun (*)

Note: One of his 4 Belgian dates (out of the 15 dates European tour). Only about 100 people showed up. Gira did a solo show. Acoustic guitar (amplified) and vocals. At the start of the show, he requested the house lights to be turned way up so he could see us all. The audience was polite and attentive and did not make a sound. A very calm concert which made that the songs were highlighted. His usual bleak songs, well performed. Gira looks like an office clerk from the 50's. He did 10 songs and then left. Came back to pick up his gear, but then decided to do one more acoustic song. No amplification this time. Asked us to gather around him on stage. So the 60 people who had stayed stood close in a circle around him and enjoyed a version of "God Damn The Sun". Then he mentioned that Genesis P.Orridge wife had just died from a heart attack 2 days ago. Asked us to pray for her. At the merchandise stand there was a note from Gira. Went something like this: "Hi there, I'm Michael Gira. Give me 15-20 mins and then I'll be over here signing CDs and talking to you." A very warm person.

(*) there was no time to remove the attenuator cable I was using. So the volume of this song was very low. I amplyfied it with CEP, which adds some hiss.
