Show Notes: I've been waiting 17 years to see Midnight Oil again, and they didn't disappoint! What more needs to be said about this band, they sound as good as I remember them in the 90's, 2 hours of amazing music. Jack Howard was joined by his fellow Hunters and Collectors members Jeremy Smith and Michael Waters on the songs marked * - Jack probably played on others as well but those ones all 3 of them played on. Probably the only point during the show they lost the crowd was during Safety Chain Blues, which clearly most of the crowd wasn't familiar with, and you'll hear a rather drunken guy in front of me exclaim at the end of the song 'what the fuck was that?' to anyone around him who wanted to listen to him. Maybe you shouldn't drink so much and talk thorugh the whole song it's destroying your brain cells dude. Apart from that the crowd was captivated from start to finish. Here's hoping for more Midnight Oil to come after this year, the world still needs this band!
Recording Notes: My first time recording in the Myer Music Bowl, and the recording came out a bit bass boomy because it's an amphitheatre with a roof covering 3/4 of the seated section and row S where I was located is right on edge of the roof. After a bit of experimenting I applied a High Pass Filter at 200 Hz and it sounds much better for it. A little bit of audience chatter (drunk dude in front of me, but he was ok for the most part), and of course a lot of singing - people have been waiting a long time to sing these songs! I think it sounds really good though and any Oils fan will enjoy listening to this one!
