General information

“Best Undiscovered Guitarist in America” –Guitar One Magazine, February 2000

This compilation was created with the idea of spreading the word about Monte Montgomery’s incredible talent to people who most likely have never heard him before, or might have heard his name and have been wondering what the fuss is all about. Well, folks, here it is!

This is by no means a complete representation of all of the talents brought to the table by Monte and his band, but is meant more as a sampler to get people initiated. Using soundboard recordings supplied by Mike Olivier, Noonie Hebert, Wayne Brissette, and above all George Stumberg, I’ve compiled just some of the best performances to come up with this five-hour, four-disc set. Choosing what to include and what to leave out was no easy task, and for that reason these discs are packed to the brim and require the 80-minute variety of CDR’s. The tracklist is about half and half between Monte originals and some of his more common cover performances, but I think once you hear them all it’s the Monte originals that will be stuck in your head. I’ve also used my limited audio editing skills to give it as close a feel as possible to what attending a show is actually like. Thus, you not only get to hear great music but also experience to some extent the down-to-earth and comedic personalities of the band who somehow remain humble while churning out some of the best music around.

Support Monte and his band by attending their shows, buying their CDs, and spreading the word around to others you know who may also appreciate hearing genuine, original musical talent in an age full of mindless pop radio. Beg your local venues to book the band, drive your local DJ’s crazy with requests, and play these discs for unsuspecting ears – if tradition prevails, you’ll inevitably get the “Who is THAT?” from everyone within earshot.

Thanks to Paleojack for his great artwork and patience, David Sell for his encouragement and input, Frank Babing for administering the tree, Bryan “KaTman” Erickson for his photo for the artwork covers, all of the recording sources mentioned above, and Montiacs everywhere for continuing to spread the word. Now sit back and turn it up!
