This is the first digitisation of this cassette after it has been held in storage for 15 years. The recording itself came to me circa 1985/86. The date on the cassette was dated 4th October 1979, however judging by what information is on the internet it seems it may in fact be from the the day before at the RMIT 3rd October 1979.

The volumes were slightly boosted on each channel to reduce noise but it does have a slight layer of hiss. Its an excellent mix of the band, a bit 'dry', but the playing is tight, and overall is not a bad recording. I believe it might be an fm recording given the slight noise that comes in here and there. There are a few dropouts and a little wow and flutter very occasionally but they do not detract from the music. It shows the band in their poppy phase complete with new wave like synths.

Considering its historical significance and the setlist, if you like the Birthday Party or Nick Cave's work you will want this. It certainly shows the oncoming change and considerably less poppy vibe and charisma of the Birthday Party with wonderful renditions of 'Guilt Parade' and 'The Friend Catcher'. In my opinion the latter tunes like towering potent dark shadows over the rest of the set. Its not a hi-fi recording but if someone fancied a remaster it might scrub up quite well. Enjoy!
