An average broadcast recording. There is some signal static but nothing to bad.? All of the instruments can be heard clearly but the signal flucuates a few times throughout the show. It has the first live performance of Fly By Night on it (according to Geddy).? I have always had a hell of a time getting proof positive on the source of this show. I have heard that it is the complete 8/24/74 show and also that it is a mix of 8/24/74 and 11/3/74.? To make matters even more confusing supposedly 11/3/74 is the first time Fly By Night was ever played. That would mean that this is either a combination of 8/24/74 and 11/3/74 or actually a complete 11/3/74. A close listening seems to suggest two different sounding recordings so I am going with the combination theory. (1999-04-01)

Early ,Early, Early Rush!! Just the historical aspects of this recording are worth owning it! The quality is not as good as the almost pristine Electric Lady show, (in which By-Tor 74 is the best of breed!)? this has more of a bootleg quality about it, but you can hear everything. (I think this was a soundboard originally) It just suffers from some generation issues. Although it also sounds like the original? was on that ancient format the "LP".? But as far as the show itself WOW! Rush with that new "no name" (at the time) drummer Neil What's his name (his 3rd show from something I've read). This is the sound of a band that wants to make it! A funny thing to hear is Geddy saying that the next song is off "The album" hmmm Rush with only one album?what a concept!!!? Fancy Dancer makes a rare appearance, as does a killer version of Here Again!? Hearing it live gives you a new appreciation for the stuff from the first Album!! Another surprise is that this is the DEBUT of Fly by Night as described by Geddy! At the very end is a "wank" guitar solo by Alex during Bad Boy, talk about self indulgence!!! Other than a few "drop outs"? this is a good recording for the collection that showcases very early Rush! (1999-04-01)

Another very early concert in the history of Rush.? Cleveland and Rush were quite a match in the mid seventies and Rush owes much of their initial success to Cleveland radio stations and their generous airplay.? The Agora can be thanked for its practice of taping live shows at the time.? In fact there is an official Devo release from the Agora, but I diverge from the subject.? I've remixed my source to further amplify the dynamics of the recording.? Unfortunately I initial thought I had the full show, but it is actually a combination of a couple shows with the same setlist as a full show.? Thankfully the recording is a soundboard with very good sound, though you can also hear the age of the recordings (and the source).? All the instruments are clear and listenable though a bit compressed in the sound staging.? Upon close listening you can hear that this source is taken from a high quality record as you can hear some faint crackle between a few of the tracks.? If you have heard the Electric Ladyland Studios performance, this will remind you a lot of that show as far as the small venue and small crowd.? This concert has a special setiment from me as I was born and raised in North Central Ohio.? As with all Digital Reproductions recordings, it's only available via free trade and never for sale. Ron's Rush RoIO Review
Rush's first radio broadcast, and their third live performance with Neil.? The origins of this tape have become a bit murky, since it's been chopped up and re-released so many times on LP and CD.? It's clear that this date is accurate, since Geddy mentions WMMF in Cleveland by name.? It's also clear though, that this isn't the whole show.? My guess is that these are the tack-on songs from the "Live at the Electric Ladyland Studios" CD.? This chopped-up version seems to be in? widest circulation, but the whole show is out there.? Whatever the origins, this show is a must have.? It's special because it features the best quality version of "Fancy Dancer" to date, and also a snippet of "By-Tor and the Snow Dog" in the guitar solo of "Working Man".? The sound on this tape is absolutely great.? It's very close to the 12/5/74 show in terms of the overall sound.? The bass is a bit loud in parts, but so much the better to hear Geddy's riffs.? All in all, you can't miss with this one.? Now to find the entire show.... (1999-04-01)
