Here's one that's been on the "to do" list for quite a while - the mighty mighty Soundgarden destroying the kiddies' eardrums at the legendary 13.13 Club. Probably couldn't be a better time to break it out with rumblings in the air of Soundgarden possibly gettin' back at it. I've had many requests for this one and hope all those folks who were wishing and waiting for it are still perusing the dime-o so they can pick it up.

Some (fuzzy) memories, opinions and facts surrounding this one -

1) This is a show where I kept expecting another recording to surface. Surely I wasn't the only person willing to stand in the middle of a sold out house with the crowd going crazy and Soundgarden melting every face in the joint off while keeping perfectly quiet for the sake of preserving musical history was I? Actually, that previous sentence makes me sound like an idiot. Anyway, we're damn near 20 years in and it looks like I was the lone taper as I know of no other versions. That's not to sat they aren't out there somewhere. I'd welcome an upgrade if there's one around to surface.

2) This show was as crowded as I ever remember the 13.13 Club. I'd seen other sold out shows there but this one seemed especially packed. And hot. And crowded. And Hot.

3) I've seen Soundgarden quite a few times and I always keep coming back to this period from a live show perspective. They were a vicous little band in 91/92 producing shows that were absolutely brutal - an incredible display of brute force and power. I really like the "Superunknown" material and how they stretched out musically on that record/tour but if I'm in the mood for a punch-up this is the era I wanna hear - the live melding of the early records transitioning to "Badmotorfinger" stuff is it for me. This recording reflects that - it's a tad dirty and loud, just like Soundgarden and the 13.13 Club.

4) I could tell in attendance (and I believe you can tell from this recording) that the band was totally on and into it at this show. Cornell was flaunting the absolutely crazy cocal range he had and Matt Cameron was (is) a beast.

5) Chris pays a nice little homage to Willie Dixon / The Doors injecting "Back Door Man" into "Slaves And Bulldozers.

6) Chris thanks the crowd for choosing to come to this show instead of staying home to catch the world premiere of Michael Jackson's "Black Or White" video on MTV. For all you young'uns out there, MTV really did used to show music videos.

7) Cassette copies of this one have apparently circulated quite widely. I did give copies to some friends and move some thru some tape trading circles (all you old timers out there give a salute to the "Goldmine" classisfieds here) as I was most heavily involved in swapping my recordings during the early nineties. This is the first time a lossless version from the master has been made available. Based on what I've seen on some other folks' lists this one got majorly butchered and disseminated at some point - I've seen it described as having multiple fades on multiple tracks during the second half of the show. The only anomalies you have here are two tape flips - the first misses no music and the second misses approximately 10 seconds of "Slaves And Bulldozers", and a pause during the crowd noise during the encore break.

8) Now to this recording's claim to Soundgarden fame - a trader I was involved with in the early 90's also traded with a person who was very close to Chris Cornell. Long story short, Chris was given a copy of this tape. Shortly afterwards that I received a message that Chris felt this was one of the best Soundgarden performances from this tour and it had become one of his favorite recordings. Maybe I didn't turn out to be such an idiot after all.

Y'all enjoy.
