show notes:

usually when I write these up, I smoke a fat bowl, get the brain lubed and have some fun.

but this show, on the other hand, while musically stellar, I write these notes with a heavy heart.

Matthew "Matty" James Pickett was the taper of this show, and he tragically was one of the numerous victims of the Station fire, there to tape Great White.

a true pleasure of the taping scene, had many a phone call with him, and looked forward to meeting someday....alas, it was not meant to be.

RIP Matty, and never forget the fund for the victims.

it *could* have been one of us:

http://www.stationfirememorialfoundation.org/

that said, I *believe* this was taped with one of those handheld Aiwa recorders with an external microphone, unknown brand.

Matty sent me the masters to this show years ago, committing the *normal* bias tapes to DAT, then sending them my way.

so this is a true master transfer, EQ'd to the best of my abilities.

and in my humble estimation, this was the REAL "Five Man Acoustical Jam", just take a look at the setlist!!!

a FTP for "What You Give"....a OTP (one time played) cover of “The Rodeo Song“ (shades of Alaska in the house? ;) ), and then the motherfucking ENCORE!!!!

The Black Crowes had opened for Aerosmith earlier that night, and decided to saunter down to The Channel to check out Tesla...which turned into them being invited onstage for an encore. for. the. AGES!!!

AND, the tape cuts out at the very end (no, I'm not "hoarding", Matt only brought one tape to the show)

the true saving grace is that this was an *acoustic* show, so where the Aiwa would normally get overloaded with the 'rock', instead this is a pretty listenable show, when one takes into account normal bias tape, the recorder used, and my EQ skills.

or, I mixed it how I wanted it to sound...hopefully it meets your standards.

all that said, hopefully you enjoy this show as much as I have over the years, and throw a moment of silence into your day and say "thanks Matty".

as he was one of the good guys.

promise.

and be sure to thank Dan, and fuck me (or at least a healthy "Fuck Hagar!")

time to keep digging.....
