Stereo AUD trade tape (2nd gen)

Trade tape > Computer WAV > Cool Edit Pro 2000 (track separation) > CD-Rs > EAC v0.99 > CEP again (DIME edit) > TLH v2.4.1 > FLAC 8 > DIME > you
Big thanks to the original taper, and to the trader who hooked me up with a copy.
I originally mastered this 2001-05-07, but no longer have the original WAVs.

The input to this source came from the 2001 final mastered CDR set, extracted via EAC / reports included.
I think the only thing I originally did on the computer was place track marks before each piece.
This FLAC fileset comes from the EAC extracts, which did not originally need SBE corrections.
After the DIME edit (see below), the Disc 2 fileset did need a SBE fix & that was done.
Disc 1 remains intact.
Disc 2 has the removal of the master's 30sec track 1, and the edit to track 12 described below.
Having yanked the initial tracks off Disc 2, it was then properly renumbered afterwards.
The EAC reports are nowheres in sync with all these changes, & remain just to demonstrate clean extraction from my master discs.

This up is a "DIME edit" from the source tape, tho what's gone from here is negligible.

Disc 2's track 1 was a whole 30sec of an excerpt from official release "For Elsie" played as intermission music, and was removed.
Disc 2's track 12 was "Diskomo (The Festival Of Death)", which has been edited to remove the part of the song possibly used for the "Diskomo Live" official release flexi.

In doing this "Diskomo edit out", I'm reminded of 2 things:
* tho Diskomo 2000 gathered up a buncha different versions of Diskomo, but "Diskomo Live" from the flexi was NOT among them (?)
* as someone once put it, there's live and there's liveR - only sped-up strains of the theme / vocals / a dash of clapping make the official release sound "live"
The piece played that night really, hardly sounds like the official release.
But I did leave a track called Diskomo in here - the beginning & end of what's on the source tape for this song.
* the beginning "light keyboard" part of the song not on the release remains, mr Eyeball announces Penn & Teller, and then I've done a fade out
* right after that, the main "drum sound" accompanied part of the theme which "liveR may or may not really be from here" begins & goes on to the end where the theme tails off in volume
* Snakey was doing a wild solo over the last part of that tail off, and here I've faded it back in when the theme is no more, so you get to hear the end of the solo
So there ya go, the 3+ min. "main theme they may have sampled from" is gone from here, and now I can sleep good at night.

NOTES

I got these two versions of the same show, both SF folks from whom I bought Residents goodies (a nice sweatshirt & a ticket stubby respectively).
Both offered up the version of the tape they had along with the item, and to both I'm eternally grateful.
And both folks had 1st gen source tapes, so this is 2nd gen you'll be hearing when you finish downloading this.

(SOURCE ONE)
Almost the whole of the Residents performance is here, but at the time I first heard this, I didn't know "there were other things edited out".
(You can check out Source Two for a buncha that.)
Act One fades in for the early part of Jambalaya, missing a little bit of it.
Everything's intact until you hear the announcer say "and now ladies and gentlemen, Penn & Teller", where it cuts out; things resume again with the start of "I got Rhythm".
But there's another cut in the middle of "Man's World" (oop, I usually note such things in the filenames, but missed it here).
It picks up again mid-song & goes on to the intermission break.
Act Two starts with "Walter" & goes straight on to the end of the main set; there's a couple of quick crowd clapping edits before the encore starts.
And there's one more crowd clapping edit before "Kamakaze Lady".

There's a bit of hiss, oh well; this one's a really beautiful sounding tape, and you'll not regret downloading it.

From the sound of things, Penn & Teller do a magic act onstage with "Eva's Warning"; going by audio, Penn is talking to the singing Resident prior to the song.
By the time the 3rd verse of the song, a "switcheroo" has been accomplished & a Resident unmasks to reveal... Teller, who sings the 3rd verse.
Must've been a sight to see.

Crank it up and ENJOY! it as I have, and share it so others can hear it.

Filenames have numbers on the end that are the TIMES (ex. - "...-359" is 3min59sec long).
One file has "QM" in the name, as question marks aren't allowed in filenames.

I mark the start of tracks when the music or count-in begins, not the talking about it before it starts.
