The Residents
Jan. 5, 1990 early show
Florence Gould Hall
55 East 59th St.
New York, NY 10022 USA

This recording is the second set only, debut for the "King & Eye" material.

The first set was Buckaroo Blues / Black Barry, excluded because of technical issues, and also it was a somewhat mediocre performance. I have another version of Buckaroo Blues / Black Barry from Alice Tully Hall (Lincoln Center) dated July 21, 1989. That is a much better set, will be uploaded very soon I promise.

Let me please remind everyone that I love you all very much.

There is an interesting story to this show, I won free tickets on a giveaway from WFMU-FM. One morning I awoke just before 9am, and a copy of the Book of the Subgenius was lying on the floor next to my bed. Overpowering telepathic communications were being transmitted to me by the face of J.R. "Bob" Dobbs on the cover of that book. "Bob" was instructing me to turn on my radio immediately and tune to WFMU, because free tickets to The Residents were about to be given away. I wasn't used to waking up at that hour, and didn't feel like getting out of bed, but the face kept insisting. It was almost as if "Bob's" eyebrows were moving up and down, Groucho Marx style. Finally I got up and turned on the stereo, feeling kind of stupid for doing so. A deejay named "Wild Girl" was just starting her shift. Wild Girl would play '60s retro race car music. Her real name was Erica Peterson. Sure enough, Wild Girl quickly offers free tickets to The Residents for the first caller who could answer the question "What does the word 'MOPAR' stand for?" I didn't know the answer but I called anyway and got thru. So I asked her to repeat the question, and then Wild Girl accidentally gave away the answer, "Motor Park." I offered to answer any question about The Residents, but Wild Girl just gave me the tickets after that without having to guess anything. At the show, I saw some WFMU staff who also luckily "won" some tickets to this show. Station Manager Ken Friedman was sitting a few seats to my right. I believe that the woman you hear giggling throughout the show is another WFMU deejay named Bronwyn. I sat about halfway back, just off center. The sound came out really good. RESIST THE METRIC SYSTEM!! Enjoy.

This is a direct, 16-bit, 44.1KHz sample of the master audience cassette.
