TOM PETTY MY FATHERS PLACE, ROSLYN, L.I. 11-29-77 WLIR FM

Back again from the Nevinsrip Basement Tapes. This time, I have selected one of my all time favorite shows. If you like ringing guitars, pounding beats and raspy vocals then this show is for you. This is the original Heartbreakers as they were breaking out into FM radio superstardom. Their first album had been released and the band is playing as if their lives depended on it. American Girl and Listen to Her Heart are especially good as they are new songs and the band is
really firing on all cylinders. Mike Campbell’s guitar work is superb throughout. Give a listen to Petty and the band when playing small clubs was a way of life……….BILL

NOTE. There is a “buzz” throughout this show that seems to come from an improperly grounded amp or mic. It is especially apparent on the quieter passages. I don’t believe that it is interference from the radio broadcast, but a Petty equipment problem. I have 2 copies of the show and both have it. There is also a 5 second tape flip near the end of “Shout” thus “Shout Reprise.”
