Captured from Section 117 Row MM (almost DFC)! I've included some pictures from my seat, but we did move before the encore to be better positioned for a quick exit.. and the encore was recorded basically side stage but sound quality wasn't much affected.

Happy New Year Avett Nation and all you groovy Dimers ! Hope you all had an enjoyable evening greeting the new year (and decade).

I had been hoping to catch an Avett Brothers New Year's Eve show here in North Carolina for the past several years, but with two teenage daughters to be available for on this night for drunken craziness, I hadn't been able to make it to one of these events yet. Now that our girls are almost legal age (and have the good sense to call an Uber if necessary), the Mrs and I decided that this would be the year.

Since the Carolina Hurricanes hockey team had a game, and first dibs, on the PNC arena - which is just down the road a piece from our home in Chapel Hill, we had to drive about an hour to Greensboro to attend... but it was an easy ride on a cold, crisp night and we settled in just in time to catch the entire support set from Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors, who did a very nice job filling the hour slot and were clearly thrilled to share to stage with the Avetts. Drew kept saying how big of a fan he was of the Avetts etc and how honored they were to be invited to open.

As for the Avett Brothers' set... if you know their music, you pretty much know what to expect.. a hard-driving, fun-lovin' sing-along with an adoring crowd made up of fans of all ages... I can't remember seeing as many families as I saw last night.. just a great North Carolina event!

This recording actually turned out a little better than I had expected... the crowd of course was ROWDY as hell, and so it is what it is when it comes to the singin' and hollerin' and woo-hooin'... so expect plenty of that... I will also tell you that there is some clipping on most of the rockers.. but I really enjoyed listening to this as I was tracking it.... If you were there, this will serve as a decent memento of your New Year Eve's festivities !

And finally, THANK YOU again to all your Dimers who share your music so generously with us all - as my database approaches 80,000 songs, I cannot imagine what I'd do without my DIME "family" who have helped me with so much great music since I joined DIME in November of 2006.

LONG LIVE DIME - and LIVE MUSIC !!
