Pixies 1986 demos

These songs were listed as '1986 demos', on a cassette tape I bought around 1993 via the Rock a My Soul fanzine; it contained these songs and the (then-unreleased) Purple Tape songs too.

I've never seen any reference to these recordings in 'official' accounts, so their actual date and source is unclear. It doesn't appear to be a radio session, so I've always used the description I was given, 1986 demos!

I released them in mp3 form on the frankblack.net forum in 2004, and they were subsequently remastered by forum user ShakeyShake to sound much better.

These versions will therefore sound much duller and rougher if you've only heard ShakeyShake's remaster, but do have the advantage of having had no mp3 stage. Hopefully someone out there will be able to do a similar remaster from these!

Best I can advise on the technical aspects: recorded from TDK FE90 cassette tape via Reaper at 48k, 16 bits, exported to 44k WAV, then cut up and exported to FLAC via Audacity.

From my original notes, the tracklist is:

1. Build High
-- a little more 'hoe-down' sounding.

2. Down to the Well
-- same as ever really.

3. Here Comes Your Man
-- slow and almost country-sounding.

4. Ed is Dead
-- check the Jerry Lee Lewis piano.

5. Brick is Red
-- extra first verse: "Brick is red/And Hitler's dead/Hang me/The earth's not round/It's shaped like an egg/Hang me".

6. Weird at my School
-- psychedelic ending and odd phrasing on chorus.

7. Rock a My Soul
-- much the same as the Purple Tape version.

8. I'm Amazed
-- with the 'all broke hearts' bit.
